GO Fest Attendants 2013
The Boy Band from the Parish of Havelock set the mood for the Mission Festival GO Fest in the Nelson Diocese last Saturday. With exuberant playing, matched by great singing, the opening songs of ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘By the Rivers of Babylon’ got us off to a great start.
Following this were stories of mission. Archbishop Philip shared his experiences in India as a young ordinand. Upon arriving back to St Johns Theological College and unable to settle in to normal College life, Philip, with two other students established a community house in Glen Innes as a base for mission. This has all had a profound influence on his subsequent ministries, including the Waikato & Taranaki Diocesan link with Malaysia.
Chauntelle and Rev Miriam shared their testimonies of a short term mission in Vanuatu, connecting with local seasonal workers who come to Seddon for work during the year. Chauntelle, a 13 year old, was a great hit with both young and old! Rev Simon spoke of his great family experience in Fiji and praised the Anglican Missions Board for their involvement.
Lunch followed with another WOW factor; hot ham in buns with lots of salad and sauces! A great idea!
After my exhortation for Mission Motivators to have Passion, Perseverance and Prayer, Archbishop Philip commissioned all the Mission leaders and anointed them.
We had a stimulating open forum and then it was back to the Boy Band to end the day as we started; with wonderful praises to the Lord. It was a great day. My thanks to the Missions Committee for wonderful planning and preparation.
