The situation has reached crisis point. At the time of writing over a 1000 casualties had been received into the town of Kurunagala alone and resources in the area are stretched beyond capacity. Many casualties are burn victims and their treatment requires specialist equipment and medicines. There are severe shortages of these and other medicines, a lack of food, clothing, beds, mosquito nets and not enough clean drinking water.
The Bishop of Kurunagala, Kumara Illangasinghe has asked for help from the Anglican communion and AMB is coordinating this in Aotearoa New Zealand.
