Parish of Geraldine
< The Parish of Geraldine has started to collect coins in empty cream bottles to raise funds for water tanks in Fiji. Two of the churches in the parish are already on board; a local cafe is willing to take donations on their behalf (with an article to be published in the local paper) and schools will be encouraged to participate next year. $600 has already raised, along with $200 at a stall during the Geraldine Festival, and they aim to reach at least $4000 towards this good cause. Well done!
Parish of Papakura
Papakura Church Hall was recently filled with eager quizzers on Sat 7th September and Quiz Master, John Dempsey put them to the test. Heads were scratched while pondering the answers for questions ranging from Food & Drink to Sports & Games. The globetrotters in the crowd were feeling confident as “Around the World” was the most popular Double-up round chosen by the teams. Baffling clues in both picture and music formats kept the crowd entertained for over 2 hours. Teams had dressed up to create a sense of fun and parishioners and their friends donated generously throughout the evening to earn answers when their wits let them down.
Beer, wine and hot beverages, as well as delicious home-made desserts were sold throughout the evening to add to the fund-raising efforts. The ubiquitous raffle was well supported and generous Silent Auction prizes gave a healthy boost to the final total. In the end, $5,150 was raised in the first ever Papakura Anglican Church Quiz night.
The support of local businesses who donated prizes, silent auction items and food was humbling. They gave willingly to support Anglican Missions celebrating its 100 years of tireless support of rescue workers, support organisations and projects that make a difference to the underprivileged across the world.
