SOMA NZ National Coordinator

JOB: Sharing of Ministries Abroad New Zealand is looking for a new National Coordinator, could it be you?

2 October 2013

SOMA is a short term mission agency called by God to serve the Anglican Communion and the worldwide Church primarily

  • By building up and equipping the Body of Jesus Christ;
  • Through the renewing power of the Holy Spirit;
  • Principally through short-term, cross-cultural missions;
  • For the transformation of individuals, churches and communities

SOMA NZ is affiliated to an International Anglican Renewal Organisation - SOMA International - which came into being at a renewal in the Holy Spirit conference in Lambeth England in the late 1970’s with the mandate to ‘care for the nervous system of the church - principally but not exclusively, in developing countries. It was begun in NZ in 1998 and since its inception has sent nearly fifty teams in shortterm missions to different Diocese in Africa, Asia and Pacific regions. It operates with a Board of Trustees and works alongside the Anglican Board of Missions to facilitate Gods mission through the Anglican Church.

This position is part-time and unpaid but with the remuneration of reasonable expenses. It will require the successful applicant primarily to facilitate relations with Vicars and leaders in The New Zealand Anglican Church, Bishops in developing countries, The International Executive of SOMA and other mission agencies with a view to stimulating the vision of short term mission teams to other parts of the Anglican Communion at the invitation of requesting Diocese.

The Coordinator would work under the direction of the SOMA NZ Trustees and at the invitation of Diocese to prayerfully coordinate both the sending and receiving of cross cultural mission teams for renewal, equipping and service in the Holy Spirit.

The Coordinator needs to be a person of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. Someone with cross cultural mission experience. An ordained clergyperson and in good standing in their Diocese. A team player willing to work with and alongside other mission agencies and parishes to facilitate the Churches mission of redemption in Jesus Christ with a particular emphasis on equipping in the gifts and ministries of the Holy Spirit.

At the present time SOMANZ is seeking God’s direction for its future which may well result in it partnering with another mission agency to more effectively pursue its vision as part of a wider team. Anyone applying for the Coordinators position will need to be fully open to working alongside or as part of a merged mission body.

If you hear the call of God on your Life to bring renewal and are interested in applying for this National Coordinator position or finding out more please contact Kas Govind (kcgovind@xtra.co.nz) or Rory Pilbrow (rspilbrow@clear.net.nz).
