Tropical Cyclone Harold stormed across Vanuatu last night (6th April) passing almost directly over the islands of Ambae and Pentecost with sustained winds of 230km/hr. We currently have an emergency appeal supporting the people of Ambae (following volcanic eruptions of 2018) and the Association of Anglican Women (AAW) is currently supporting the rebuilding of St Patrick’s College on Ambae. We do not yet know the extent of damage or if there have been fatalities or injuries.
The cyclone is now heading south-west and while likely to pass to the south of Fiji, will impact the country later today and tomorrow. Photo: Tropical Storm Risk 7/4/20
Please remember and pray for our brothers and sisters in the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu as they recover from the devastation caused by Tropical Cyclone Harold and for Fiji as its hunkers down and prepares for its impact later today – and bearing in mind that Pacific countries, like us, are also in the throes of the COVID-19 crisis.
A Prayer in a Time of Disaster
Holy One, you are our comfort and strength
in times of sudden disaster, crisis, or chaos.
Surround us now with your grace and peace
through storm or earthquake, fire or flood.
By your Spirit, lift up those who have fallen,
sustain those who work to rescue or rebuild,
and fill us with the hope of your new creation;
through Jesus Christ, our rock and redeemer.
